five nights at freddy's

welcome to my video game log !

my first exposure to video games was as a 7(ish) year old, from my older sibling playing the ps2 we own (which i shall someday get a controller for and boot up again). from my recollection we had 3 games: sonic generations, sonic unleashed, and madagascar for whatever reason. i really wanna play sonic unleashed again to see if i'd be any better now but i probably wouldn't be.. i was never really competent at any of these games, and i didn't end up getting into video games, ever really.

since then, i've made something of a conscious effort to play more video games, but unfortunately my lack of childhood experience has led to my current teenage self being exceedingly bad at basically every game. i'm kind of forced to play everything on easy mode since normal would probably force me to replay certain parts so many times i'd give up. i also never really finish games for some reason, i'm truly not consistent like that. much of my video game consumption comes more from mass watching videos on youtube about them, which just works well in tandem with my inability to play games and having more of an interest in story/lore than gameplay.

i also don't play many video games cause i am broke AS FUCK !! i pirate any games that cost more than a cent, but unfortunately this means i can only ever play games that have been developed by big companies, since i'm obviously not gonna pirate indie games. also some of the games i wanna play are genuinely just too big and i don't have storage for em.. lookin at you CoD MW2..

thoughts/notes/infodump:
i first got into five nights at freddy's after a friend of mine told me to watch gigi's horror homestead's 8 hour long fnaf video, which i did as a joke. i did not get the last laugh unfortunately cause this video got me obsessed with the franchise for months to come. since then, gibi has become my favourite fnaf-tuber. after getting into the series, me and this friend ended up playing through most of the fnaf games together, and after endless grinding i beat 4/20 mode. i played this game a lot during class, mainly commerce (somehow my teacher never caught me despite the fact that i was almost flinching at jumpscares). also i've played a couple other fnaf games but i might hold off on adding them here for now..

for anyone curious, the main theory i subscribe to is arcade theory (gibi suprise suprise). in essence (i think), arcade theory states that all the 8-bit minigames that you can play throughout the fnaf series (foxy go go go, take cake to the children, etc) are real arcade cabinets in the universe of fnaf, which are all 'haunted' in a way. not by a specific soul, but the events of the games are altered since remnant(???) is changing them in some way, which is why games like take cake to the children, a game about delivering cake, now shows purple guy killing a child outside the pizzeria. this is confirmed in some way in fnaf world, where the yellow eyes in the void says "everything that happens out there has an effect in here", events in the real world are impacting the flip side. as a result, cassidy is informed of the goings ons of freddy's while she is dead, trapped in the suit-mode golden freddy suit and in animatronica. arcade theory feeds into dual protagonist theory, that states there are 2 different protagonists in the five nights at freddy's series: michael afton and cassidy. michael is the protagonist of almost every fnaf game, the guard in fnaf 1, the second guard of fnaf 2, facing off against father in fnaf 3, the fear experiment child of fnaf 41, the employee in fnaf 5, and the employee in fnaf 6, but he is not the player of UCN. in every michael protagonist fnaf game, lore is distributed through 8-bit minigames, but this changes with the 1 game that has william as the protagonist. we know very little about michael, one of the few character traits we are given is that he likes to watch tv shows. while cassidy is learning the events of fnaf as they happen by playing all the 8-bit minigames that are being impacted by the actions of michael and william, michael learns the events of fnaf retrospectively by watching tv shows in his death.

1 thought i'd explain this theory since idk how many people believe this over cc being the player of the whole game. essentially, in fnaf 4, michael is the one experiencing the night-time gameplay, while cc only experiences the end-of-night minigames. this is supported through the survival logbook, where mike draws a recent dream he has of nightmare, implying that he experienced fnaf 4 as a child and is now dreaming about them again during fnaf 3. unrelated but i also somewhat believe that the nightmare animatronics didn't actually look like that but it was actually illusion discs or whatever the game equivalent of that bs is, cause why the fuck would anyone make those things irl.
